Almine Rech Paris, Matignon presents its first solo exhibition of Jean Dewasne’s work.
“A major figure in the revival of geometric abstraction, Jean Dewasne established himself in the 1950s as one of the most daring artists of his generation. In post-war Paris, he conceived of pure geometry and colours as symbols of a new humanism in progress, integrating the scientific thinking and technological advances of the time. While his early works were in line with the pioneers of abstraction, he quickly asserted a resolutely new vision, based on the use of industrial materials and a monumental approach to creation. (…)
Dewasne’s work contributed decisively to the birth of a new type of geometric art, which reflects the desire to blend art and life through monumental and original in situ creations, giving his work a profoundly generous and social dimension.”
Domitille D’Orgeval,
Contemporary art historian, critic and independent exhibition curator.
